Biography

Géraldine has been an artist since childhood. Much later, she realized this and took up acrylic painting to define the emotions she carried within her. In her works, which lie between figurative and abstract, she chose the brush as her creation tool, but very quickly replaced it with the knife. The latter allowed her to create, in a sustained rhythm, canvases with strong colors and uncertain shapes. It was this imposing movement that helped her externalize her emotions. However, over time, her busy life as a woman and mother forced her to take a break from her artistic path, which she accepted without regret. A few years later, the painful loss of her father upended her world. The numerous responsibilities that followed made her feel the need to create again, a need that would be defined as the liberator of her suffering. Her creations multiplied, strong, and filled with vibrant colors and emotions. Her horizon opened up, her artistic expressions became immortalized, giving birth to the artist she is today.

In her studio with large windows overlooking nature, the decor is minimalist, allowing the canvases to reign supreme. Géraldine paints but also draws, according to her inspiration. Great artists such as Zao Wou-Ki and Rothko, to name a few, have been and remain her models, particularly in her desire to constantly surpass herself.

Géraldine is not only an artist but a nomad who absorbs the various countries she sets foot in, traces of which can be found in some of her creations. These often arise from a journey, an emotion, but also from an encounter or a love. It is to the sounds of Jazz that her works take shape, right up to the final touch.

Inspiration & techniques

The Line, Action, and Escape.

Among the abstract paintings presented here, several stand out due to their unique pictorial structure. Some are marked by the repetition or aggregation of specific motifs, while others exhibit forms with geometric outlines. These structures challenge the illusion of depth, the contrast between foreground and background, as well as the relationship between verticality and horizontality, characteristics of linear perspectives.
As a semi-abstract painter, Géraldine aspires to a style where the line becomes the main subject and encourages us to defy the illusion of depth and the contrast between foreground and background. She seeks to suggest the figurative within abstraction, to evoke rather than impose. Through shapes, colors, and symbols, she combines order and chaos, softness and violence, discourse and silence. It is a transcription of life, a representation of the passage of time and the eternity of change, the only immutable law of the universe.
Drawing is the expression of sensitivity, a reservoir of emotions. According to Géraldine, the artist breathes in the air of the world, and the drawing becomes their breath. By drawing, they infuse the outside world with their vision of it. The artist who draws instinctively projects their inner world while considering the outer world. Instinctive drawing creates surprise and reveals an unknown and new world, like an apparition. Art consists in unveiling what exists within us, including for the one who contemplates the drawing.
